Rice & Carry

Fair trade products from waste

Rice & Carry started in 2012 from the idea of upcycling old rice bags to reduce plastic waste and generate job opportunities for women in Sri Lanka's rural areas.

Today, they offer a wide range of bags and accessories, all made with waste materials found on Sri Lanka's coastline. Since 2019, we are a guaranteed member of the World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO).

Upcycled Waste Materials

Each Rice & Carry bag tells its own story. Maybe it was made from an old rice bag found on a buzzing Sri Lankan market. Or from a turmeric spice sack from India. But don't worry, all materials are carefully cleaned before being upcycled.

Handmade By Women

All products are unique and handmade by one of the female artisans. They are trained women from rural villages to become skilled seamstresses. Of course, they're paid fair wages, according to fair trade principles.
