How to get to know yourself and unlock your full potential

 

How well do you know yourself? Self-knowledge is vital if you want to be happy. At the moment that you start getting to know yourself some of the benefits you'll experience are: feeling more confident, learning how to control your emotions, making better decisions, and becoming more kind towards others. Why is it that even knowing all that we rarely give ourselves time to stop and learn about ourselves? It's time to change that, so I'd like to share a few tips on how to discover who you are.

First, you need to understand what is self-knowledge. It's the ability to see yourself clearly and objectively through reflection and introspection. To know yourself means knowing your thoughts and feelings, where they came from, and how they affect your behavior. It is also about knowing your desires, motivations, needs, and values in life. What makes you get up every morning? What makes you motivated to do your job? Why do you look up to this person? Why do you trust this person and not this one? Now you're ready to dive deep into the self-awareness discovery!

 

1. Stop 

 

 

We live such busy lives that it's very difficult to stop, but that's the first thing you need to do. Find a comfortable space where you feel secure, to connect with yourself. Be present, pay attention to yourself only. Avoid any distractions, put your phone away. If you know how to meditate go ahead, if not, just pay attention to your breathing, don't cling to your thoughts. You have to look inside yourself, pay close attention to your thoughts, how do they come about and how do they leave? The way to do this is in times of solitude and quiet. If you are always busy and on the run, you will never have time to look at what's going on inside your head.

 

2. Be mindful

 

 

 

Use every opportunity you have to become aware of what you're doing. There are so many things we do on autopilot, like driving, cooking, walking. Next time you realize you're in that auto mode, stop for a second and really focus on whatever it is. If you're driving, what are your hands doing? Are you holding the steering wheel with one hand or both? How about your feet? Are you pressing on the accelerator or break? It's really important to learn how to focus, that'll help you to be present and enjoy whatever you're doing.

 

3. Practice yoga

 

 

Yoga is not only a physical practice, it’s just as much a mental practice. While your body is stretching and bending and flexing, your mind is learning discipline, self-acceptance, and awareness. You become more aware of your body and all the feelings that manifest, and you become more aware of your mind and the thoughts that crop up. It's even better when you create a morning ritual and make it part of your routine, you'll see results faster.

 

4. Journaling

 

 

Journalling is an amazing tool to clear your mind, it allows you to reflect without getting distracted. Through journaling, you can identify, clarify, and accept your thoughts and feelings. It helps you discover what you want, what you value, and what works for you. It can also help you find out what you don’t want, what is not important to you, and what doesn’t work for you. Not only can journaling help you discover and ponder life questions, but it can also help you be a better communicator. 5. Ask for feedback

 

 

 

It's important to take into consideration the opinion of your loved ones. Ask as many family and friends as you can, they see us with different eyes, they bring insights we might never have thought about. It's good to have a different perspective, but don't rely exclusively on it, evaluate and compare with your own. See what really resonates with you.
